The beginning of 2008 has been hectic. After having Christmas in Hong Kong, we were joined by Joshua Turner (our 15 year old nephew from Queensland, Australia) - for about 10 days. I hope the experience was good for Josh. He got to see a little of the Hong Kong lifestyle, sites, etc. and then got a little taste for the work we're doing in the Philippines. Heres a few photos of Josh in Hong Kong.

We had planned to go to the Philippines and work on a slum reconstruction, however, due to some timing issues we couldn't actually do the builing (although we did visit the house Jack, Cleo and I worked on last year). Instead, Josh and Jack spent a morning visiting a couple of pre-schools that ICM runs. They played some games with the kids - who definately enjoyed it. Here's a few photos of Josh and Jack in the Philippines.

So as noted, we had a pretty good trip, and I hope Josh got a lot out of it. On the day Josh left for Australia, I left for New York on a work trip. Life wasn't all work through January however. At the ICM Fund Raising banquet last year, a friend of ours purchased a trip to Whistler in Canada. They asked us to join them and we gladly did. I went directly from New York, and Julie took the long flight to Vancouver with the kids (aparantly not the most fun trip ever). After skiing in June, both Jack and Cleo were masters of the slopes. Here's a few piccies of the ski trip (sorry no ski photos as we didn't take the cameras up the mountain).

This is the house we were staying in (with Will and our friends 2 year old playing out the front). It was a wonderful home donated to the ICM banquet by an obviously extremely generous individual.

While it was -12 degress outside, the Jucuzi was toasty warm at aroudn 38 degrees. A nice way to finish of a day skiing.

This is the view from the kitchen window. The mountain in the background in Mount Blackcome (beside Mount Whistler). It was amazing skiing - in particular, skiing the glacier was incredible. The run was more than 12 kms long.
We came back from Canada, and then after just 1 week (where I was in Singapore for most of the week) we packed up again and went to El Nido in the Philippines. This was our 4th year in a row at VWAP (Vacation With A Purpose). The purpose this year was to spend time listening to the renowned Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias. We found his talks extremely challenging / valuable and are very glad to have gone again. Amazingly Cleo has now had two birthdays (3rd and 6th) in this idillic location. Some have all the luck ! Here are a few photos of the vacation bit of the VWAP.
